June 2, 2008: It's Official!

At CPA congress this weekend, the Board of Directors voted to accept us as the newest division of CPA.  From now on we will be referred to as the Pain Science Division of CPA, or PSD for short, rather than the Canadian Physiotherapy Pain Sciences Group.

Over the summer we will be working hard to establish ourselves as a viable option for membership in the coming year.  This will almost certainly mean some changes to the format of some of our existing modes of communication, including the newsletter and website.  We anticipate our first newsletter as the PSD to come out to members in October of this year.

In the meantime, we will be doing our best to keep the content of our website as fresh as possible.  We would still love to hear from you, our visitors, and enjoy receiving your feedback.  More to follow in the coming months.

Canadian Academy of Pain Management Update

This message came to me from Gloria Gilbert, PT, regarding a CAPM meeting to be held during Canadian Pain Society conference in June in Victoria. PTs who are planning on attending this conference should make an effort to get to this meeting to ensure adequate PT representation within the CAPM, currently the only credentialing body in Canada for pain practitioners.

Dave

Message from Gloria:

The first general membership meeting of the CAPM will take place on Wednesday May 28, 6.45 a.m. to 7.45 a.m. during the CPS Meeting in Victoria (May 27-30)

This is a breakfast meeting before the opening session of the Education Day which precedes the official Conference

We will be voting in the elected Board of Directors of CAPM and additional nominations are still needed (to reflect good regional and multi-disciplinary representation)

Please email your nomination by May 26 to Dr. Eldon Tunks at etunk@mountaincable.net.

You can also make this nomination at the meeting.

You are welcome to attend the Breakfast meeting, even if you are not yet sure of the benefits of becoming a member of the CAPM.

For further information, contact Gloria Gilbert , PT at gloria@downtownlcinic.ca

May 12, 2008: The latest (final?) newsletter

Surf on over to our Archived newsletters page and download our latest newsletter, Vol 4 2.  This one is again chock full of good stuff, and we'd love to hear your reactions or feedback to any of the content, our email addresses are listed on the right sidebar.  I included the word 'final' in the title, because this newsletter is likely to be the last one under the auspices of the CPPSG, not because we are disbanding, but because our next newsletter in the fall of '08 is fully expected to be coming to you from the new Pain Sciences Division of the CPA.

While we're on this subject, for those of you going to CPA Congress, be sure to go visit our co-chair Neil Pearson for an eye-opener on the Friday morning of congress.  We've got some breakfast nibbles for you, and Neil would love the opportunity to meet and talk to those of you interested in what the new PSD will have to offer.  All for now!

February 1, 2008: and the survey says...

Those of you who are CPA members in Canada will have received a survey recently asking about your interest in the formation of a pain sciences division in CPA.  This is the CPPSG's newest endeavour, which is really a re-hatching of our previous effort two years ago.  The CPA has, wisely, revised it's guidelines for the creation of new divisions, and we are fortunate in that we believe we have a solid chance at getting approval this go around.

If you are interested in the reasons behind our new direction, I would suggest you either head on over to Dave's blog for a brief explanation, or look to our newest newsletter in the Archives section.

We hope you will all take the 3-4 minutes to complete the survey.  The results from our first member survey two years ago were very promising, and we hope to surpass those results this time around.  Let's make this dream a reality for all of us.
